Das Yosemite Valley ist jedes Jahr Anziehungspunkt für Millionen Touristen. Nicht mehr die großen Wände waren das Maß aller Dinge, Freiklettern war die Nachricht der immer größer werdenden Gemeinschaft der »Yosemite Climber«. Kletterer aus aller Welt fanden sich alljährlich im Camp IV zusammen, um der wichtigsten Sache der Welt nachzugehen - dem Klettern. 1993 erschütterte eine Frau die Grundfeste der alpinen Männergesellschaft: Lynn Hill kletterte als erste »frei« durch die Riesenwand des El Capitan. Nachdem alle glaubten, dass die Erschließung des Yosemite abgeschlossen wäre, öffnete sie den Klettern die Augen und entdeckte die Wände des Yosemite neu. Nicht mehr mit Haken und Hammer, sondern mit Muskelkraft und Magnesia - Freiklettern an den riesigen Bigwalls, das jüngste Kapitel im Yosemite Valley.
